A new important investment for Borșa town — and for tourists: a fuel station has been inaugurated, which also brought the creation of new jobs.
⛽ A local business creating jobs
The new fuel station, opened by Petre Horj and his family, represents a significant investment for the mountain town of Borșa, located at the foot of the Rodnei Mountains, a popular destination for tourists heading to Prislop Pass and the nearby ski slopes. Inaugurated in August 2026, the station — which operates under the SOCAR brand — came with the creation of new local jobs, in a town where tourism and transit traffic make modern services essential.
„I am glad to see that people from our Borșa community have the courage to invest, to create jobs and new services, and to contribute, through their work, to the development of the town. An investment of this kind means more competition, modern services and, hopefully, the best benefits for the people of Borșa,” said Ion Sorin Timiș, the mayor of Borșa.
„I congratulate Petre Horj and his family for this investment and for everything they have built so far in Borșa. I wish them continued success and as many beautiful projects as possible,” the mayor added.
🏔️ A strategic location for tourists
Borșa is one of the main mountain resorts of Maramureș and a key point on the tourist map of northern Romania. The town is a gateway to the Rodnei Mountains National Park and an important transit point for travellers heading to the Prislop Pass, which connects Maramureș with Bukovina. For drivers crossing the mountains, a modern fuel station means more competition, modern services and shorter waiting times — an argument that matters both to locals and to the thousands of tourists who pass through Borșa every year, especially in winter, when the ski slopes attract visitors from all over the country.
🤝 Local initiative, community benefit
The investment shows that local entrepreneurs are willing to develop their businesses in a town whose economy depends heavily on tourism and transit. „I am glad to see that people from our Borșa community have the courage to invest, to create jobs and new services,” the mayor said, praising the Horj family for everything it has built so far in Borșa. The opening of the station adds to a series of local projects that support the development of the town, bringing new services closer to the community and creating opportunities for those looking for a job without leaving the area.
For the people of Borșa, the new station is not only a place to refuel, but also a sign that investments made locally can bring visible benefits to the whole community: more services, more jobs and a more attractive town for visitors.
