Romania’s acting Health Minister Cseke Attila announced major changes in how medicine stocks are monitored. The ministry wants a digital alert system that signals in advance when stocks reach a critical level.
„It is inadmissible that Romania still lacks a digital system to track medicine traceability and know in real time when a stock reaches a critical level. We cannot wait for a medicine to disappear from the market and only then look for solutions”, Cseke said.
He ordered an urgent audit of the entire medicine availability monitoring mechanism, including the procedure for issuing Special Needs Authorizations. The ministry is also analysing raising the minimum stock level threshold from which the authorization procedure can start — currently at 10 percent.
The measures come after several signals of supply problems for certain medicines, including epilepsy treatments.
🔍 What’s next: The ministry expects a complete report from the National Agency for Medicines on market monitoring and concrete proposals to improve IT solutions.
