Universal Alloy Corporation Europe (UACE), the second-largest company in Maramureș, is investing EUR 8 million in a new aluminium recycling plant in Baia Mare — the third factory of the group in the county and its first in the county seat.
🏭 A new EUR 8 million investment
UACE, registered in Dumbrăvița commune, operates two plants in Maramureș — in Dumbrăvița and Tăuții Măgherăuș. It is a subsidiary of the Swiss holding Montana Aerospace AG, one of the world’s leading producers of complex lightweight components and structures for the aerospace industry.
The new project will be developed on a 6,384 sqm plot in Baia Mare, near Strada Oborului, where the company plans to build a plant that will recycle approximately 5,000 tonnes of aluminium shavings per year, resulting from the processing of aerospace parts.
⚙️ Technical details
The factory will feature equipment with a maximum aluminium alloy melting capacity of about 15 tonnes per day, a P+1 storey building with a total floor area of 2,166 sqm, including a recycling hall of 1,555 sqm. Photovoltaic panels with a maximum installed capacity of 400 kW will be mounted on the roof, and the plant will be lit only with LED lamps.
The new facility is expected to employ around 20 people working in three shifts, with production running non-stop for approximately 300 days a year. The final products will be aluminium ingots weighing 7-10 kg.
🌱 Why it matters
Montana argues the investment through the reuse of aluminium, which would have a significant positive impact on the environment and the economy, improving energy efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions. The project is estimated to be completed within 12 months and is being implemented together with Acordo ICMS SRL, a Bucharest-based consulting company.
